When impact grows where no one is looking
Some days, being an Agile Coach feels like lighting a match in the wind.
You show up, you care deeply, and yet the change you hope to spark flickers faintly—if at all.
You meet teams who are set in their ways. Product Owners who are “too busy.” Developers who say, “We’ve got our own process.” You offer new ideas, only to be met with silence, or polite indifference.
And still, you return.
You stay.
The Power of Presence
I recently found myself in one of these quiet seasons.
A kind team—but comfortable in their long-held habits. A Product Owner with little time or interest. An assistant PO who seemed enthusiastic at first, but gradually stopped responding to invites. I offered help, story-writing support, even games to engage them—and still, I remained on the outside.
At first, it was frustrating. I wanted to help. I knew how much smoother their collaboration could become. But pushing harder wasn’t the answer. Instead, I started doing what coaches often do best:
I watched. I listened. I held space.
I celebrated small wins—even just being invited to a call.
I offered curiosity, not correction.
Change Takes Root Quietly
Coaching, I’ve come to believe, often happens beneath the surface. Like a seed in rich soil, it’s working even when no one notices.
We don’t always see the roots growing.
We don’t always get applause for patience.
But presence matters.
And real transformation often begins not with big declarations—but with a question, a smile, a willingness to stay.
To Fellow Coaches: Keep Showing Up
If you’re in a season where change feels slow—or invisible—know this:
You are making a difference.
Every kind word.
Every question asked without judgment.
Every small seed of curiosity you plant.
Coaching is not always about the spotlight.
It’s about the soil.
So keep showing up.
You never know what’s about to bloom. 🌱
